Paul's work on music videos gave him the chance to meet many pop stars. He was the online editor for this music video (offline edited by his friend Walter Schlomann) and had a chance to spend several days in the edit room working with Cyndi Lauper: 

"Amazing experience! Cyndi is very smart and verbal – lot’s of fun, chatty stories.  She also expected the highest standards, and would joke good-naturedly about “Sabotage!” anytime there was a challenge in the edit. 

I was most impressed by her extremely keen eye:  Because of an unusual technical issue in the film-to-tape transfer process, each shot in the final edit was off by one “field.”  This is half a frame, which represents 1/60th of a second difference.  It slipped by the trained professionals, but somehow Cyndi saw that something was “off.” 

Took awhile to track down what it was, and not an easy fix, believe me. Cyndi was not pleased, which had all of us sweating a bit. 

“Sabotage!” But in the end she was gracious and very happy with the result, which had a healthy rotation on MTV."
