CBS Sports Assistant Director Bill O'Brien came to Paul's edit room with very little to work with. Here's how Paul turned that around: 

"Bill arrived with interviews collected pre-season for the TV networks by the NCAA at the factory-style "Media Day" before the start of the college football season. He complained bitterly that they were lackluster at best, unwatchable at worst. The coaches and players had all been asked the same list of generic questions, and responded as if they couldn't wait to get out of there.

He wasn't sure how to make it work. But that's all the material we had available for a tease at the top of the show to start the season.

Time for the editor to get creative!

Expectations were low. In the end, however, the show's producer Vin DeVito was so pleasantly surprised by what Bill and I came up with that he used this tease not only for the Preview Show, but then again for the first week of the regular college football season."
