From 2000 to 2008, Paul worked on six Tours de France with CBS Sports, winning three Emmys in the category of Outstanding Live Event Turnaround: 

"Producer Victor Frank and I worked side-by-side for many hours in a tiny remote editing truck, traveling all over France crafting these pieces. Vic is old school sports TV, with all the passion that implies: “We’re not just covering an event, LET’S MAKE A MOVIE!.” Vic is brilliant at identifying the best characters, their conflicts and teasing out the drama. The segment featured here is prime example. 

The Tour is a huge traveling circus - networks from all over the world assembling and breaking down entire studios and sets each day to follow the competition across the mountains. Most were broadcasting live. But we were one of the few edited shows. That meant we could pick a strategic location, stay put much of the week and let the Tour move around us, as motorcyles shuttled tapes back to the edit. Vic was also brilliant at finding the most beautiful spots to park our trucks for the week! 

Then on the final day of each week we would have to join the circus and scramble to get the final segment of the show out before air. Those days were crazy. Often we were still editing that final segment in France, while the beginning of the show was already airing in the U.S. Some very close calls, with no net. But that was part of the excitement to the Tour! 

Our small team over the years included an impressive list of talented producers, writers and editors. The music was specially composed for Vic and the Tour by Mark Wood and Armen Keteyian hosted the show in early years. Even with all our combined experience covering the biggest sporting events in the world, many of us who worked the Tour de France for CBS Sports agree that it was the best gig in sports television."
