Paul worked with CBS Sports editing features for the Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan: 

"The Olympics are what got me into Sports Broadcasting. I was attracted to both the spectacle and the exotic locations. I had been living and traveling in Asia and managed to get hired locally as a "runner" for NBC Sports at the Seoul Olympics. That job was pivotal—every sports broadcast role I’ve had since can be traced back to the connections I made there, especially with NBC producer John Gilmartin. 

After working several Olympics with John at NBC, he generously recommended me to CBS for the Nagano Winter Games. CBS brought me on to edit dozens of Olympic features at their Manhattan Broadcast Center in preparation for Nagano. I was then promoted to Supervising Editor and sent to Japan, where I helped set up and manage the edit rooms, while also training incoming editors. It was a busy six weeks, but it was fantastic - I had my own apartment in a nice neighborhood outside town, got to know Nagano, met a lot of athletes and even managed to sneak in a little skiing. 

One of the highlights of the gig was working with producer Sydney Trattner on her “fairy tale” themed piece about legendary downhill skier Katja Seizinger, which is featured here. Because we had ample resources before the full crew arrived, Sydney and I were able to add creative graphics that helped bring Katja's story to life. 

While in Nagano, CBS reclaimed NFL broadcast rights, and when I returned to New York my Olympic edit room transitioned into The NFL Today edit room. That marked the start of many years freelancing for both CBS and NBC Sports at the same time — an unexpected but rewarding path that all began in Seoul."
