The BBC film BLAST! premiered theatrically at the IFC Center in New York and was broadcast worldwide on PBS, NHK, Discovery Canada, VPRO, YLE, and more. 

“When you’re following the story of adventurers, inevitably you go on an adventure yourself. BLAST! was the journey of a lifetime and brought me to Arctic Sweden, Arctic Canada, New Zealand and Antarctica. 

I met Werner Herzog at McMurdo Station - he was invited as part of an official Artist program to make his Antarctica movie. But I had to struggle with months of bureaucratic effort to get on the Ice and was never sure I would make it. Once I got there my brother Mark told me to lay low because we looked so much alike. I was stupid and didn’t listen: When I asked for an interview with the Station Manager, who is the ultimate authority at McMurdo, he assumed my brother had brought me down on a boondoggle instead of offcial business and promptly kicked me off the continent. Luckily by that I time I had shot most of what I needed, recruited a crew and left all my cameras with them to continue shooting. 

Which captured the spectacular launch that frames this trailer! The editing process became as suspenseful as the journey we were documenting. The BBC had commissioned and funded the project, but did we actually have a viable movie? That was never clear until the scientists themselves finally completed their mission. 

Mark may never forgive me for the position I put him in when I got kicked off the ice. But that gave me special motivation to make sure the movie was a success. Hopefully getting him on The Colbert Report helped.”
