PRODUCER, DIRECTOR, EDITOR
Beautiful Lie (Excerpt)
"Shopping for Two"
Discovering editing gold that everyone else missed.
Paul’s former CBS Sports colleague, director Joe Loverro followed his friend Anthony Bettencourt far and wide for a year to capture the journey of Anthony finally coming out as Michele to her international corporate cohorts:
“When Joe dropped the hard drive on my lap, which contained a year’s worth of footage from all over the world, he really had only a vague idea of what was there. He wanted to make Anthony/Michele happy and figured we had enough material for a decent short. Fine with me - I was just a gun for hire.
But as I got deeper into the material during the edit, I decided this might be more than a vanity project. Maybe there was potential for a fascinating feature. I used scenes like the one shown here to convince Joe.
He and his DP, Anthony Seratelli, assumed that a large portion of the material they captured was a waste of time. Like this shoot following Anthony around a Singapore shopping mall. But when I got my hands on it, I saw a gem that just needed a little cut and polish with some clever editing.
A few surprises like this and Joe soon jumped on board my feature-length plan for the film.”
