An inside story from a legend.

Paul also worked on both the offline and online edit for the ESPN Film, Yankees-Dodgers-An Uncivil War:

“Knowing we would need more help to finish the film in only six days, I urged Director Fritz Mitchell to bring on an additional colorist, Art Bell. With Art on board, Fritzi's long-time editor Paul Carruthers and I made the desperate decision to experiment with a new beta version of the editing software DaVinci Resolve.

This latest version had been released only two weeks earlier, but boasted an amazing, untested collaboration capability that was exactly what we needed: While Paul and I conformed the edit with high-resolution replacement files, Art was able to color-correct remotely on the same timeline!

We abandoned conventional linear workflows and instead conformed and color-corrected simultaneously. Choosing this dangerous, uncharted path included countless obstacles. I’ll leave the gory details of those six days to your imagination.

But after many stressful all-nighters, we made air on ESPN!

The movie is excellent and was very well-received. I know because my wife – who is not a baseball fan and knew nothing about the events – loved it!

Credit to Fritz and Paul for bold choices and their remarkable story-telling collaboration.”
