Paul worked on offline edit for Yankees-Dodger: An Uncivil War: 

“I supported Fritz’s long-time editor, Paul Carruthers, on the off-line edit (while juggling my day job at CBS Sports). Fritz and Paul collaborated on the over-arching narrative; I was assigned stand-alone vignettes. 

Fritz would identify a section that could be isolated, Paul would package the material for me to edit, and Fritz would consult back and forth with both of us. Once completed, Paul would incorporate my work into the larger documentary. Then Fritz would assign me the next piece. 

The clips on view represent a sampling of sections I worked on in the off-line edit. 

I made unfettered use of archival material found on the internet to help illustrate these stories. Paul slapped my wrist when he saw what I was up to. I was accustomed to editing with any material I wanted at CBS Sports - we had all the rights. On this project, however, Paul pointed out that rights were expensive and paid for by the second. 

But Fritz gave me the go ahead. The project had no home yet, so the primary goal was to get it sold. That would take telling a great story with great images. From Fritz’s point of view, figuring out rights at some point in the future would be a good problem to have. 

Paul disagreed. 

Turns out both of them were right…”
